DOMAIN NAME REGISTRATION TIPS
Domain name registration | the right choice
The first step to any website is choosing a domain name. This will represent who you are and what you do. Choosing a name should be a memorable name and not something complicated with odd characters or spelt an odd way.
List as many words you can think off that represent your business or the website content. Once you have this list make up some combinations.
Short names are easy to remember and are less susceptible to spelling mistakes and errors. Remember people need to find you so choose something that your customers will remember, that tells people who you are and appear professional.
Will a search engine friendly domain name give an advantage?
This particular question has been the question of much debate however be assured that in my opinion this is not the case. In my experience search engines put little emphasis on your domain name and rely primarily on the sites content, structure, layout and of course keywords and page titles.
Domain names and the common problems
Avoid hyphenated names - the hyphen is often forgotten which means your customers might end up on a competitors website or worse receive your emails.
Renewals - keep note of when your domain expires to avoid interruptions with your website and renew it before its due.
Domain registrant - Make sure you're the registrant of your website and not the person registering it on your behalf.
Keep your contact details up to date and notify your provider of any change of address to ensure you get your reminder for your domain renewal.
